Endemia
Epidemiologian, endemia[1] biztanleria edo lurralde geografiko batean denbora asko irauten duen prozesu patologikoa da. Gehienetan, patologia infekziosoez hitz egiten ari gara. Gaixotasuna maila iraunkorrean mantentzen da denbora luzez, sasoiko gorabeherak barne.
Gaixotasun baten hedapen-mailari edo kaltetutako pertsonen kopuruari dagokionez, garrantziaren arabera, endemia, epidemia eta pandemia daude (azken hori kontinente bati baino gehiagori eragiten dionean).
Gaixotasun endemikoen adibide dira, besteak beste, malaria Amerikako, Asiako hego-ekialdeko eta Afrikako herrialde tropikal edo bero batzuetan, Chagasen gaixotasuna, dengea, sukar horia eta kukutxeztula.
