Spaserra erradiazio-igorpen estimulatuaren bidezko gainazaleko plasmoien anplifikazioari deritzo. Izena ingelesezko Surface Plasmon Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation terminoaren akronimoa da. David J. Bergman eta Mark I. Stockmanek fenomeno hau lehenengo aldiz deskribatu zuten 2003. urtean[1]. 2009ko abuztuan, Purdue, Norfolk State eta Cornell unibertsitateetako ikerlari batzuek lehenengo spaser gailua sortu zuten: 44 nm-ko diametroko nanopartikula, tindatutako siliziozko ingurune aktiboz inguratutako urrezko nukleoaz egina[2].
