แม่พระรับเกียรติยกขึ้นสวรรค์^[3] (หรือชื่อภาษาไทยอื่น ๆ เช่น พระนางมารีย์รับเกียรติเข้าสู่สวรรค์^[4] หรือ พระแม่มารีย์รับเกียรติยกขึ้นสวรรค์ทั้งกายและวิญญาณ) หรือ อัสสัมชัญ (อังกฤษ: Assumption of Mary หรือชื่อเต็ม Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary) ในคติของคริสตจักรโรมันคาทอลิก, อีสเทิร์นออร์ทอดอกซ์, ออเรียนทัลออร์ทอดอกซ์, คริสตจักรตะวันออก และบางคณะของแองโกล–คาทอลิก หมายถึงการยกกายและวิญญาณของพระนางมารีย์พรหมจารีขึ้นสวรรค์ ถือเป็นการสิ้นสุดชีวิตบนโลกของแม่พระ การเฉลิมฉลองเทียบเท่ากันในคริสตจักรตะวันออกเรียกว่าการบรรทมของแม่พระ (Dormition)

การเฉลิมฉลองแม่พระรับยกขึ้นสวรรค์หรือวันอัสสัมชัญเป็นวันฉลองนักบุญที่สำคัญในคริสตจักรที่เฉลิมฉลองพระแม่ โดยทั่วไปตรงกับวันที่ 15 สิงหาคม ในหลายพื้นที่ของโลก นิกายคาทอลิกกำหนดให้วันนี้เป็นวันฉลองบังคับ การถ่ายทอดออกมาเป็นงานศิลปะเป็นที่พบได้ทั่วไปในศิลปะคริสต์ พบมาตั้งแต่ศตวรรษที่ 12

ตามคำสอนต้องเชื่อของโรมันคาทอลิกระบุว่าแม่พระทรง "สิ้นสุดช่วงชีวิตบนโลกใบนี้ และได้รับการยก (assumed) ทั้งกายและวิญญาณเข้าสู่ความรุ่งโรจน์นิรันดร์ในสวรรค์"^[5] ตามที่กำหนดไว้โดยสมเด็จพระสันตะปาปาปิอุสที่ 12 เมื่อวันที่ 1 พฤศจิกายน 1950 ในธรรมนูญพระสันตะปาปา Munificentissimus Deus ภายใต้หลักพระสันตะปาปาย่อมทรงไม่ผิดพลาด^[6] ในขณะที่คริสตจักรคาทอลิกและอีสเทิร์นออร์ทอดอกซ์เขื่อว่าเป็นการนอนหลับ (Dormition หรือ "การนอนหลับของแม่พระ")^[7]

ศัพทมูล

คำว่า "assumption" มาจากภาษาอังกฤษยุคกลาง "assumpcioun" แปลว่า "การยกขึ้นสวรรค์" (a taking up into heaven) และมาจากภาษาละติน "assumptio" แปลว่า "การยก" (taking)^[8]
