โค่วโถว (จีน: 叩頭) เป็นการแสดงความเคารพอย่างสูงโดยการหมอบกราบ คือการคุกเข่าและก้มศีรษะลงถึงพื้น ในวัฒนธรรมเขตจีน การโค่วโถวเป็นการแสดงความเคารพอย่างสูงที่สุด การมีใช้อย่างแพร่หลายเพื่อใช้แสดงความเคารพต่อผู้อาวุโส ผู้บังคับบัญชา หรือโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งจักรพรรดิจีน เช่นเดียวกับวัตถุสักการะทางศาสนาและวัฒนธรรม ในยุคปัจจุบัน การโค่วโถวมีการใช้ที่ลดลง[1]

ศัพทวิทยา

คำว่า "โค่วโถว" เขียนเป็นอักษรจีนว่า 叩頭/叩头 (ยฺหวิดเพ็ง: kau3 tau4; พินอิน: kòutóu) มีอีกคำเรียกหนึ่งว่า "เคอโถว" เขียนเป็นอักษรจีนว่า 磕頭/磕头 (พินอิน: kētóu; ยฺหวิดเพ็ง: hap6 tau4) แต่ความหมายของตัวอักษรมีความแตกต่างกัน โดย 叩 มีความหมายโดยทั่วไปว่า "เคาะ" หรือ "โขก" ส่วน 磕 มีความหมายว่าทั่วไปว่า "แตะบน (พื้นผิว)" และ 頭/头 มีความหมายว่าศีรษะ ต้นกำเนิดของธรรมเนียมนี้น่าจะอยู่ในช่วงยุควสันตสารทหรือยุครณรัฐของประวัติศาสตร์จีน (771–221 ก่อนคริสตกาล) เพราะเป็นธรรมเนียมที่มีสมัยราชวงศ์ฉิน (221 – 206 ก่อนคริสตกาล)[2]
