Le origìni del nome no l'è oncora chiare: ghe n'è stùdi che dal nome derivante dal latino medianum par la sò posiziòn in mèz tra Imèr (da imus, de sòt) e Siror (da superior, de sòra). Altri i lo collèga a la famèa nobile feltrina De Mezzan, altri al suffisso -anum dei prediali.
