Hemokinski ligand 2 (X-C motiv) jest mali citokin koji je kod ljudi kodiran genom CXCL2 sa hromosoma 4. Pripada porodici CXC hemokina koja se također naziva makrofagni inflamatorni protein 2-alfa (MIP2-alfa), protein beta reguliran rastom (Gro-beta) i Gro onkogen- 2 (Gro-2). CXCL2 je 90% identičan u sekvenci aminokiselina kao srodni hemokin, CXCL1.
Ovaj hemokin luče monociti i makrofagi i ima hemotaksije za polimorfojedarne leukocite i hematopoetske matične ćelijee.[5][6][7] Na hromosomu 4, gen za CXCL2 nalazi se u grupi drugih CXC hemokina.[8] CXCL2 mobilizira ćelije, interakcijom sa ćelijskom površinom preko hemokinskog receptora koja se naziva hemokinski receptori (CXCR1 i CXCR2.[7]

Funkcija
CXCL2, kao i srodni hemokini, također je moćan hemoatraktant neutrofila i uključen je u mnoge imunske odgovore, uključujući zacjeljivanje rana, metastaze raka i angiogenezu.[10] Studija je objavljena 2013. testirajući ulogu CXCL2, CXCL3 i CXCL1 u migraciji glatkih mišićnih ćelija disajnih puteva (ASMC), što ima značajnu ulogu u astmi. Rezultati ove studije pokazali su da i CXCL2 i CXCL3 pomažu u posredovanju migracije normalnnih i astmarskih ASMC-a kroz različite mehanizme.[10]
