Linars[1] (Linards en francés) es una comuna lemosina situada dins lo departament de la Nauta Vinhana e la region de la Novela Aquitània, ancianament de Lemosin.

Fòrmas ancianas : in parrofia de Linars vers 1100, Linars après 1202, en 1200-1206, en 1246, Alhinars en 1239. La prononciacion es [li'naɾ] [2].
Segon Dauzat, Linars pòt representar linarium, lo nom latin de persona Linarius, o un nom de persona de tipe Liénart, eretier dau germanic Lewon-hard [3]. La fonetica s'i opausa.
Segon Marcel Villoutreix, i a l'ancian occitan linar, champ de lin, mes 'queste Linards correspond a Alinarus, Alinardus [4] (a causa de la fòrma de 1239 ?).
Segon Ives Lavalada, lo tipe linarium (òme que trabalhava lo lin) o lo nom de persona Linarius menan au diftongue finau -ier. Donc s'agís probablament d'un nom germanic d'òme Alinardus, Alinarus [2].
Segon Negre, Linars correspond a l'occitan linar, « champ de lin », au plurau [5].
