Lo Vijan[1] [lu viʒɛ̃m] (Le Vigen en francés) es una comuna lemosina situada dins lo departament de la Nauta Vinhana e la region de la Novela Aquitània, ancianament de Lemosin.

Las fòrmas ancianas son Vico en 1071, Gaufridus de Vijano en 1116, Viga en 1176-1193, capellanie Vicani en 1195, Vicanum, Vicano au segle XIII. La prononciacion es [lu vi'dzɔ] [2].
Segon Dauzat e Rostaing, lo nom representa benleu lo latin vicanum, derivat de vicus [3].
Segon Negre, lo nom representa lo nòrd-occitan vijan, « plaça publica » que a degut aver lo mesme sens que vigan, « vilatge, barri »[4].
Segon Ives Lavalada, Lo Vijan ven dau latin vicanum (forum), « plaça de vilatge », dau latin vicus, « grope d'abitacions, vilatge » [2].
