Motomet (Mouthoumet en francés) es una comuna lengadociana, situada dins lo departament d'Aude e la region d'Occitània, ancianament de Lengadòc-Rosselhon.
Geografia
En tot demorar un vilatge pichon, Motomet a tirat un grand profèit de sas ancianas foncions cantonalas : a la gendarmariá e ara la sola escòla del canton, plaçada dins un bastiment novèl al nòrd-èst del vilatge.
Toponimia
Las fòrmas ancianas son : Castrum de Moutonier = Moutomet en 1260, Moutomet en 1260, Montomechum en 1270, De Mothometo en 1301, Mouthonietum = Mouthometum en 1320, Rector de Motometo en 1351, Arthomecum = Motometum en 1360, Motomentum en 1366, Motomet al sègle XIV, Moutonet en 1595, Mouthoumet en 1781 [1].
Segon Dauzat e Rostaing, Motomet es un nom escur. Poiriá benlèu venir de mons, montanha, e d'ulmetum, compausat del latin ulmus, om, e del sufixe collectiu -etum[2]; mes -l se seriá conservada abans -m-.
