Fogoneu ardogintzako mahats beltz bat da, mahatsondo txikiak, aihen meheak, mordo trinkoak eta lodiak, eta ale ez oso lodiak dituena.[1][2]
«Fogonet» edo «fogonetxo» ere esaten zaio, izena «fogó» (sutegi) hitzaren txikigarria da. Mallorcako mahats mota autoktonoa da, Pla i Llevanteko ardo beltzaren eta Formenterako eskualdeko ardoetan erabiltzen dena.[2]
Mahatsondo honek ez duenez autougalkortasunik, beste barietate polinizatzaile batzuekin nahasitako landaketetan aurkitu ohi da; adibidez, callet mahatsarekin.
Fogoneu mahatsarekin egindako ardoa graduazio eta lurrin apalekoa da.
